Ankita & Ajay
A Tamil Brahmin wedding,
rooted in tradition.
Based in the USA, with Tamil Brahmin roots in Chennai, Ankita and Ajay chose Jaipur for a celebration that brought their traditions into a new setting. At Hyatt Regency Jaipur Mansarovar, lotus hangings, kolam patterns and thoughtful floral craftsmanship framed a wedding centred on family and ritual.
A story that began with trust
Perhaps the most meaningful introduction is a recommendation. Friends who had attended a Tamil wedding we designed at Chomu Palace connected Ankita and Ajay’s family with Purple Grapes Events. That first conversation began with a shared wish: to celebrate in Jaipur while honouring the traditions that felt like home.
Both based in the USA, with roots in Chennai, Ankita and Ajay imagined a celebration that brought South Indian traditions into a North Indian setting. We began by listening to the family, then finding a place where that vision could unfold.
Together, at the heart of every ritual
The ceremony’s story lives in the couple’s shared moments: the playfulness of exchanging garlands, the closeness of family and the smaller gestures made during the rituals. Family stayed close as each moment unfolded, filling the ceremony with laughter, affection and blessings.
Jaipur, with a sense of home
The family wanted the atmosphere of a heritage setting within Jaipur. Our venue research led us to Hyatt Regency Jaipur Mansarovar, where heritage-inspired architecture and a generous courtyard offered a fitting backdrop for their celebration.
An entrance into the celebration
Banana plants, wooden frames and layered white garlands marked the arrival. The passage introduced the materials and floral language that guests would discover throughout the ceremony setting.
A Tamil wedding mandap, grounded in tradition
Lotus hangings and white flower strings framed the mandap, with greenery softening its architectural edges. Kolam-inspired patterns, wooden chairs and traditional lamps brought a familiar language to the ceremonial space.
A canopy and wooden guest seating extended that sense of care beyond the mandap, giving family and friends a place to gather around the rituals.
South Indian wedding décor, in the details
Some details revealed themselves slowly: floral tassels against patterned fabric, a garland resting on a traditional sculpture, the rice rangoli and the texture of leaves. Each belonged to the same story, expressed at a smaller scale.
The sound and spirit of the day
Traditional musicians and the quiet detail of a brass bell belonged to the same ceremonial world. Together with the lamps and flowers, they gave the celebration its atmosphere.
The peacock oonjal, petal by petal
A carved wooden swing became the setting for the oonjal ceremony. Above it, a floral peacock opened into a sweeping 12-foot tail. Its body was carefully formed from individually folded petals—a patient expression of the artisans’ craft.
With Ankita and Ajay seated together and family gathered close, the installation became part of the ritual itself.
Traditions shared across continents
Friends from overseas joined the celebrations in sarees and kurtas, becoming part of the wedding’s visual story. Coordinated attire and shared experiences brought everyone into the same frame.
Silk, flowers and family blessings
Ankita’s silk saree, gold jewellery and flower-adorned braid brought her bridal look together. She entered beneath a floral chadar with family around her and elders’ blessings—a personal moment within the larger celebration.
Ajay’s traditional attire and flower garlands carried the same connection to the couple’s Tamil Brahmin roots.
A table that brought everyone together
The celebration continued with the Sappadu, bringing guests together around the wedding meal. After the ceremony, these shared moments returned the focus to the people who had travelled to celebrate Ankita and Ajay.
